Support the development of an original Ukrainian/ American theater work
a fundraising campaign supporting RealTime’s upcoming work: there is a blue that only children see
Did you know that Pittsburgh is home to the fifth largest population of Ukrainian-Americans in the country? Our city is indelibly bound to Ukraine— by history, by blood, and by culture. America’s past, present, and future are deeply tied to Ukraine’s.
In this spirit of connection, RealTime Arts and their partners DTCare are bringing together Ukrainian and US veterans in an exchange of ideas, artwork, and support via Zoom and mail. Using what is shared in these interactions as source material, along with Ukrainian folk stories and songs and input from everyday Pittsburghers, RealTime will create an original music-theater work titled there is a blue that only children see. It will premiere in the Fall of 2026.
Your donation will support this ambitious cross-cultural development process, from hiring and paying artists from both countries, to paying for travel for Ukrainian veterans visiting our US team, to bringing the final show to life both here in Pittsburgh and (hopefully) in Ukraine.
You’re now part of the making of a new, shared folklore for our times. With your donation, you’re helping us make new work that connects Pittsburgh to its own roots—and to heroes across the world.
